We’ve been watching the Summer Olympics each evening, and even in the mornings before we have to leave for work. My question today is: what Summer Olympic event would you like to do when you grow up?
I love the synchronized diving, but would need most of the Beijing Fire Department to come and unglue me from the board, if I dove off, I am fairly certain my marks would be the lowest ever recorded, in fact the judges would be laughing so hard they wouldn’t be able to create marks.
I love the strength, grace and beauty of gymnastics, and was so proud of Maggie when she was on the Energym gymnastics team, but when you think strength and grace is my name synonymous?
The bicycling is so challenging and thrilling to watch, but I can barely get up the hill in Sycamore Park on my way to and from work without needing to get off and push my bike. I could never do the course they finished, no matter the air quality.
My Summer Olympic event would be swimming. I have always loved swimming, and vividly remember the summer we learned how to swim laps and turn at our Sycamore Park swim lessons. I thought that was the best manuever we had learned, and it made putting up with the freezing pool worthwhile!! I love that when you’re swimming the water diffuses all of life’s interferences. Have you noticed at the end of each race the swimmers have to look at the board to see their time and place? Totally oblivious to everything except their body, strokes, and kicks.
I’m off for a dip in the pool, I may not be fast, I may not look good in a suit, but what a fantastic mental vacation from the noise of life!
